Preventing bacterial vaginosis is possible.
BV is a condition that results from an overgrowth of unwanted bacteria in the vagina. When this happens you experience horribly embarrassing symptoms like a strong fishy odor and a discharge. Obviously this is something that wreaks havoc on your sex life and on your life in general.
So it’s little wonder that millions of women who are suffering from BV right now just want to cure it, and fast. But most of all you want to stop it from coming back, because many women have to suffer from constant recurrences.
Bacterial vaginosis prevention starts with treating it right the first time. Most women will not even think about BV unless they think they have it, or are diagnosed with it. So I’m going to assume you either have BV now, think you have it or have recently had it.
Here’s how you can work towards the prevention of bacterial vaginosis:
1. Take your first course of antibiotics
2. Don’t rely on antibiotics for subsequent infections as it kills all the good bacteria that your vagina needs, and can cause yeast infections and a recurrence of BV.
3. Don’t douche – ever! Douching can cause BV and can make it worse, not to mention is an unsafe and unnecessary practice.
4. Keep clean and dry. But don’t over wash – once daily is enough. Use plain soap only.
5. Don’t use sprays, powders or other feminine hygiene products.
6. Only wear cotton underwear.
7. Practice safe sex and limit your number of sexual partners.
8. Maintain a healthy weight and eat well.
